 Dear Dr. Dokmen and the Harmony Admins,

I would like to sincerely thank you, Dr. Dokmen, and the many other Harmony administrators for your continued support and mentorship throughout my interviews and Externship programs, even after I graduated from high school.

The Cybersecurity and Data Structures Externships helped me strengthen my resume, and the Leadership Network Fellowship allowed me to develop essential soft skills that are critical in any professional environment.

Thanks to your guidance during my job search and for serving as my referrals, I’m thrilled to share that I will be starting a new role as a Software Engineer. I’m truly grateful for all your encouragement and for always looking out for us.

My career journey was a winding path. For the first time after college, I entered the workforce and gained an understanding of what having a job meant beyond checking off boxes. I had four different paths, and each taught me patterns I could expect no matter where I went -- staying the extra hour, staying professional amongst people you grow all too familiar with, staying humble after making mistakes. What I wanted, now, was to find something that actually interested me and met me at my current skill set. 

A little about my journey: I had started off with the network when I first became a teacher at Harmony after graduating from college with my certification. My goal was to become an adolescent therapist. This was during the first two years of quarantine, and with a change of heart, I decided to go into retail and soul-search for a career that was more skin deep. Literally. I obtained my laser technician license and worked in skin care and hair removal, with a focus on sales. That opened my eyes to the world of negotiating, building rapport, making a pitch, and managing up. The world of business was not where my heart resided, however. 

When I felt stuck, the first place I went back to was the Harmony Alumni Network. To find a stable career where I could combine my love of caring for people and working as a technician, I knew the counselors there would be the perfect people to ask where I could take my next step. They showed me current online resources that reflected job projections, connected me to alumni who were in fields I was interested in, and most importantly, were there for moral support when I did not know what was possible. 

Wherever you are in life, if you ever feel the need to move up, move out, or just pick someone’s brain, they are there for you. All of this, and their counseling services are free. The Harmony Alumni Network is an unrivaled opportunity. I am ever grateful to them.

I never thought I would say this, but I work in my dream job now! Examining hearts and presenting them to doctors and patients with care, in a culture of service, I am happily a heart ultrasound technician.
